Wainwright — Beaumont RCMP seeking public assistance in locating suspect in fatal collision - update #3

On Feb. 27, 2024, at 6:15 p.m., Wainwright RCMP, along with officers from the Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit, arrested Peter Richard Ashby (35) at a residence in Wainwright in relation to the fatal hit and run collision while fleeing police on Feb. 25, 2024. The victim of the collision has been identified as 45 -year-old Fort Saskatchewan resident Kassandra Gartner. Peter Ashby has been charged with:

Beaumont — Beaumont RCMP seeking public assistance in locating suspect in fatal collision

On Feb. 24, 2024, at approximately 9:00 p.m., Beaumont RCMP located a person suspected of theft, in a parked 15-foot cube moving truck, at a business on 50 Street in Beaumont. When members approached the truck and attempted an arrest, one male driver and one female passenger rammed into a police vehicle and fled the scene at a high rate of speed. Patrols were initiated to find the truck and, a short time later, it was observed on 50 Street and Highway 814 in Beaumont at a high rate of speed.

Kehewin First Nation — Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit investigates homicide in Kehewin First Nation

On Feb. 20, 2024, at 10:45 a.m., Bonnyville RCMP received a report of a suspicious death on Kehewin First Nation. Upon arrival, RCMP located a deceased 38-year-old male Kehewin First Nation resident. The Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit has been deployed and has taken carriage of the investigation. There is no threat to public safety. The victim has been taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Edmonton and an autopsy is scheduled for Feb. 23, 2024.

Fort Saskatchewan — Individual faces 16 weapons-related charges following RCMP Federal Policing investigation

On Feb. 13, 2024, the RCMP Federal Policing Integrated National Security Enforcement Team (INSET) arrested a Fort Saskatchewan resident for multiple weapons-related offences. Following a thorough investigation, INSET executed a search warrant for a primary residence and vehicle. As a result of the search, the RCMP seized two prohibited automatic rifles, one prohibited semi-automatic rifle, one prohibited automatic handgun, one restricted handgun, two non-restricted semi-automatic rifles, one non-restricted shotgun, 33 prescribed prohibited magazines, and four bayonets.

Maskwacis — Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit investigate homicide in Maskwacis

On Feb. 11, 2024, at 12:15 p.m., Maskwacis RCMP received a report of a deceased person in a residence on 6 Mile on Samson Cree Nation, Alta. Upon arrival, police located a deceased male. The circumstances around the death were suspicious, and the Alberta RCMP Major Crime Unit was deployed to take carriage of the investigation. The deceased was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Edmonton. Police are treating the death as a homicide. The deceased has been identified as 26-year-old Gordelle Soosay.

Mundare — Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit investigate suspicious death in Mundare

On Feb. 19, 2024, at approximately 3:30 a.m., Vegreville RCMP responded to a report of a house fire on 49 Street in Mundare. The fire department extinguished the fire and located human remains inside the residence. At this time, the circumstances around the death have been deemed suspicious. The Alberta RCMP Major Crime Unit has been deployed to take carriage of the investigation with the assistance of Vegreville RCMP and St. Paul Forensic Identification Services.

Southern Alberta  — Cochrane Crime Reduction Unit charge three for numerous golf course break and enters

Various RCMP detachments in Southern Alberta District have been investigating a spree of break and enters, which occurred in January and February to golf courses and other businesses in several counties surrounding Calgary. Cochrane Crime Reduction Unit was assigned the investigation on Jan. 30, 2024. Investigation identified a male and female who were believed to be responsible for the crimes and a suspect vehicle, a Volkswagen Jetta, was identified.

Okotoks — Okotoks RCMP investigate shooting

On Feb. 8, 2024, at approximately 9:34 p.m., Okotoks RCMP were dispatched to a report of multiple shots fired at a residence on Crystal Shores Drive in Okotoks. Witnesses reported that immediately after the shooting, two suspects were seen running from the residence, and they departed the scene in what was believed to be a Toyota Highlander. A visitor at the residence received injuries as a result of the shooting, which are reported as being non-life threatening.
