Valleyview — Alberta RCMP Major Crime Units conducts arrests in homicide investigation

On Nov. 8, 2023, Valleyview RCMP responded to a report of a male who had been assaulted and was suffering from serious lacerations to his body at a residence on Sturgeon Lake First Nation, Alta. He was transported to the hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. An autopsy conducted by the Edmonton Medical Examiners Office determined that the victim, 36-year-old Aaron Bellcourt, had died as a result of his injuries and the death was deemed a homicide.

On May 2, 2024, Southern Alberta District RCMP Crime Reduction Unit (SAD CRU), in partnership with High River RCMP, initiated an investigation into stolen property. GPS technology led officers to a rural location in Foothills County, Alta., where a stolen generator was believed to be. A search warrant was obtained and executed, and officers located the stolen generator, a stolen enclosed utility trailer, and over a thousand pounds of copper wire that was actively being stripped for recycling purpose. As a result, two suspects were arrested and have been charged.

Fort Chipewyan — Fort Chipewyan RCMP make significant drug seizure

On May 3, 2024, Fort Chipewyan RCMP, with assistance from Wood Buffalo RCMP Crime Reduction Unit, conducted a motor vehicle check stop in Fort Chipewyan. As a result of the check stop, RCMP have seized a sizeable amount of suspected crack cocaine as well as several vapes. The total value of seized illicit drugs and vapes is approximately $60,000. Two adult males have been arrested with charges pending. Both males are in custody awaiting judicial interim release hearings.

Fort McMurray  — Wood Buffalo RCMP conducts drug investigations, suspects facing charges

On May 10, 2024, at approximately 4:30 a.m., Wood Buffalo RCMP conducted a traffic stop in the area of Thickwood Boulevard. On April 3, 2024, Alberta RCMP Major Crimes took carriage of an investigation after human remains were located in Rocky View County. The matter is being investigated as a homicide. The deceased was identified as 33-year-old Kyle Schuiling, a resident of Calgary. On May 3, 2024, a 39-year-old individual, a resident of Calgary, was charged with the first-degree murder of Kyle Schuiling.

Leduc — Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit investigate Homicide in Leduc

On May 7, 2024, Leduc RCMP received a report of a well-being check on a male at an apartment building on 50 Street in Leduc. Upon entering the apartment, RCMP located a deceased male. The male was transported to the office of the Chief Medical Examiner, and the Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit was deployed and took carriage of the investigation. The deceased has been identified as 74-year-old Leduc resident Leonard Harry Belcourt.

Alexander First Nation — Alberta RCMP major Crimes Unit investigates homicide on Alexander First Nation

On May 5, 2024, at approx. 2:30 p.m., Morinville RCMP received a report from EMS to assist with an adult female patient in medical distress at a residence on Alexander First Nation. Upon arrival, EMS transported the patient to hospital where they were declared deceased. Morinville RCMP contacted the Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit to advise of the death. The body was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner where an autopsy was performed and the death was deemed as a homicide.

Parkland County — Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit Investigate homicide in Parkland County

On May 14, 2024, Parkland RCMP received a report of deceased person located in a treed area south of Spruce Grove in Parkland County. Parkland RCMP attended the area and located the deceased person. The Alberta RCMP Major Crimes was contacted and took carriage of the investigation. RCMP remained on scene investigating until noon today. Police have now vacated the area. The deceased has been transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner where an autopsy is scheduled for May 21, 2024.

Drumheller — Drumheller RCMP investigating found human remains

On May 5, 2024, Drumheller RCMP were notified of possible found human remains. A person had been off roading in a rural area south of Delia, Alta., and found what was believed to be human remains. The bones were collected and transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Calgary, who determined that the remains are human. An Anthropologist has been engaged to date the remains. The investigation continues.

On May 16, 2024, at approximately 3 a.m., Fort Vermilion RCMP responded to a report of a male suffering from a gun shot wound. EMS also attended, transporting the victim, who succumbed to his injuries on route to the hospital. The cause of death is believed to be suspicious. Clairmont — Grande Prairie RCMP investigating found human remains - Update

On March 14, 2024, the remains of Echer Marcial (34) were found on Range Road 55, near Clairmont. Following an autopsy, the Chief Medical Examiner in Edmonton has deemed the cause of death to be a homicide. Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit took carriage of the investigation, and have charged 37- year-old Grande Prairie, Alta. resident, David James Sietsma, also known as "Toothless," with the first-degree murder of Marcial.

On April 18, 2024, the Drayton Valley RCMP, with the assistance of the Alberta RCMP Western Alberta District (WAD) Crime Reduction Unit (CRU), executed a search warrant on the home in the town of Drayton Valley.

Olds — Okotoks RCMP investigate shooting

On May 1, 2024, shortly after 3 p.m., Okotoks RCMP were dispatched to a possible shooting in the area of Sheep River Court, Okotoks. Preliminary investigation revealed a 53-year-old male suffered a gun shot wound and has since been flown by STARS air ambulance to a Calgary hospital. The male victim is in serious but stable condition. A 26-year-old individual has been taken into custody with charges pending. This was an isolated incident and there is no threat to the public. RCMP will be in the area while they conduct their investigation.

Vilna — Smoky Lake RCMP respond to rural break in with armed suspects

On April 22, 2024, at 5:05 p.m., Smoky Lake RCMP received a report of a break-in in progress on township road 602 near Vilna. The victims observed three or more armed men come onto their rural residential property and begin to steal items from the outbuildings. The victims observed that the suspects appeared to be armed with long guns. The suspects were able to steal the victim's pickup and flee the area in two vehicles.
