Wetaskiwin — Alberta RCMP officers involved in shooting in Wetaskiwin

On Aug. 30, 2024, at 12:28 a.m., Wetaskiwin RCMP received a report of individuals who were following a caller to 911, who said these people were trying to kill him. At 1:22 a.m., police located an individual on 56 Street and 37A Avenue in Wetaskiwin and approached him. It was found that this individual was in possession of several weapons, which officers were able to confiscate.

On April 3, 2024, Alberta RCMP Major Crimes took carriage of an investigation after human remains were located in Rocky View County. The matter was investigated as a homicide. The deceased was identified as 33-year-old Kyle Schuiling, a resident of Calgary. On May 3, 2024, a 39-year-old individual, a resident of Calgary, was charged with the first-degree murder of Kyle Schuiling. On Aug. 13, 2024, RCMP Major Crimes Unit arrested and charged another person responsible for the homicide of Kyle Schuiling.

The suspect, Tanner Nelson, is thought to be on foot, armed with a knife, and considered extremely dangerous. Wildfire Recovery Actions: Update 1

Monday marks the fourth day Jasper residents have been able to return to the town. Recovery efforts are ongoing and will be ongoing in the weeks and months ahead. Significant work has been done to combat wildfire activity across the province, resulting in the lowest number of wildfires since early July.
