Province-wide — Alberta RCMP conducts traffic enforcement over Canada Day long weekend Thursday 04 July 2024 08:00 PM UTC+00 | Tags: alberta Edmonton – This Canada Day long weekend, from June 28 to July 1, your Alberta RCMP removed a total of 101 impaired drivers from our provincial roadways. Of the 101 impaired motorists, 79 drivers received Immediate Roadside Sanction (IRS) FAILs and 22 received IRS WARNs. As well, 1,679 traffic safety violation tickets were issued with 780 motorists being written up for exceeding the speed limit, 31 for distracted driving, and another 34 for the improper use of vehicle safety restraints. On average, property crime tends to rise during the summer months. In July 2023, in Alberta RCMP jurisdictions, there were 2,798 reports of Theft Under $5,000. Property crimes are often crimes of opportunity, and maintaining a nightly routine can help deter thefts.
