Minister of Seniors, Community and Social Services Jason Nixon issued the following statement on International Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder Awareness Day 2024:

O'Chiese First Nation — Alberta RCMP investigate homicide on O'Chiese First Nation

On Aug. 30, 2024, Rocky Mountain House RCMP received a report of a body in a field. RCMP attended and located a deceased person in the field with injuries. The deceased has been identified as a 21-year-old male resident of O'Chiese First Nation. The deceased has been transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, and the death has been deemed as a homicide. The Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit has been deployed and taken over the investigation.

Red Deer — Red Deer RCMP Crime Reduction Team arrest male following weapons calls

On Aug. 30, 2024, the Red Deer RCMP Crime Reduction Team (CRT) arrested and charged one male after receiving numerous calls of a man and a woman with a firearm.

Airdrie — Airdrie RCMP Crime Reduction Unit make arrest in drug trafficking investigation

On Aug. 2, 2024, Airdrie RCMP Unit arrested an Airdrie resident after an investigation into drug trafficking in Rocky View County, Alta., Airdrie, and the city of Calgary. A 22-year-old individual, was found breaching a current release order conditions from a previous Airdrie RCMP drug investigation. The individual was subsequently charged with the following offences:

Leduc — Leduc RCMP General Investigation Section charge one person for robbery

On July 8, 2024, Leduc RCMP responded to an armed robbery at the Coasters Lounge in Leduc. Officers attended the lounge and learned one male suspect wearing a ski mask entered the lounge brandishing a firearm and demanded money from the lone employee. The suspected then fled the area on foot with an undisclosed amount of money. Patrols were made, but the suspect was not located.

Spruce Grove — Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit investigates homicide at the Edmonton Corn Maze - Update

Alberta RCMP have laid charges in connection with the murder of a male at the Edmonton Corn Maze on Aug. 27, 2024, near Spruce Grove. The victim has been identified as 53-year-old Joseph Farnsworth. RCMP have charged a 41-year-old individual with second-degree murder. The individual was taken before a justice of the peace and remanded into custody with a next court date set for Sept. 4, 2024, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Stony Plain, Alta. St. Albert — St. Albert RCMP investigate shooting - Update

St. Albert RCMP continue their investigation into the shooting that occurred during the early morning hours of Sept. 2, 2024. Investigators have obtained a photo of the suspect vehicle believed to be involved in the shooting. This vehicle is described as a white van with tinted windows.

Fox Lake — Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit investigate homicide in Fox Lake

On Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2024, at approximately 3:30 a.m., Fox Lake RCMP responded to a weapons complaint at the Fox Lake Nursing Station. RCMP arrived at the nursing station where a 19-year-old female resident of Fox Lake was being treated for injuries consistent with a stab wound. Despite life saving efforts by medical staff, the female succumbed to her injuries. The matter was deemed a homicide, and RCMP Major Crimes took carriage of the investigation.

High Level — Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit Investigates found human remains in the High Level detachment area

On Aug. 15, 2024, The Alberta RCMP located human remains in Mackenzie County. The deceased was transported to the Edmonton office of the Chief Medical Examiner, and on Aug. 19, 2024, the medical examiner identified the deceased as 41-year-old Tyler Peterson, a Hay River, NWT resident and who was reported missing from Hay River on July 14, 2024. The Medical Examiner also identified the manner of death as a homicide. The Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit has taken carriage of the investigation and will be working in conjunction with North West Territories Major Crimes Unit.

Westlock County — Westlock RCMP make arrest following stabbing – Update

Westlock RCMP have laid charges in connection with a stabbing that occurred on Aug. 23, 2024, in Westlock County. RCMP have charged a 30-year-old individual, a resident of Westlock County, with attempted murder. The individual has been taken before a justice of the peace and remanded into custody with a next court date set for Aug. 28, 2024, at the Albert Court of Justice in Westlock, Alta. Southern Alberta  — RCMP Southern Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit execute three search warrants to nab tire thief

In August of 2024, RCMP Southern Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit (SAD CRU), in partnership with Lethbridge Police Service Property Crime Unit, entered into an investigation into fraudulent credit card purchases of BF Goodrich K02 tires. Six businesses in Southern Alberta received phone or online orders of BF Goodrich K02 275/60/R20 tires. An order of 8-12 tires would be purchased, and a male would pick them up the next day in a U-Haul van.
