Breton — Central Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit (CAD CRU) make significant seizure and lay charges

On April 11, 2024, CAD CRU were asked to assist Thorsby/Breton RCMP with a break and enter investigation. RCMP received information that a civilian was following a suspect vehicle believed to be involved in a break and enter when it slowed and then shot at the civilian.

Southern Alberta  — RCMP Southern Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit lay multiple fraud charges in scam

RCMP Southern Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit (SAD CRU), in partnership with Raymond RCMP and the Western Canada Lottery Corporation, took over a crime series involving a technique called the "Manual Entry Transaction Fraud." The crime series targeted small business convenience stores between Dec. 31, 2023 and Feb. 26, 2024. The manual entry credit card scam is conducted as follows:

Cochrane — Southern Alberta District General Investigation Section charge male after officer involved shooting near Cochrane

On April 16, 2024, a Cochrane RCMP officer attempted a traffic stop in a rural area near Cochrane. While attempting to effect an arrest on the driver, a confrontation ensued, resulting in the officer discharging their service pistol. The suspect suffered serious non-life-threatening injuries. As a result of an investigation by the Southern Alberta District General Investigation Section and Cochrane RCMP into the incidents leading up to the officer involved shooting, charges have been pursued.

Vulcan — Southern Alberta Crime Reduction Unit recover numerous stolen vehicles

On April 7, 2024, Vulcan RCMP attended a property in rural Vulcan County in response to a complaint of a stolen vehicle. Upon arrival, a male fled the property in a stolen GMC Sierra pickup truck and was arrested shortly thereafter. One officer sustained a minor injury during the arrest. On April 9, 2024, Southern Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit (SAD CRU), with the assistance of the RCMP Auto Theft Unit and Vulcan RCMP, executed a search warrant at the rural Vulcan County property, during which time the RCMP located the following:
