On April 16, 2024, a Cochrane RCMP officer attempted a traffic stop in a rural area near Cochrane. While attempting to effect an arrest on the driver, a confrontation ensued, resulting in the officer discharging their service pistol. The suspect suffered serious non-life-threatening injuries. As a result of an investigation by the Southern Alberta District General Investigation Section and Cochrane RCMP into the incidents leading up to the officer involved shooting, charges have been pursued.
