The Alberta RCMP Auto Theft Unit has made several arrests and recovered $500,000 in stolen vehicles after a nearly 3-month long investigation. In March of 2024, the Alberta RCMP Auto Theft Unit identified a trend of brand-new Ford Explorers being stolen from dealerships throughout Central Alberta. The thefts were sophisticated as the suspects were programming new keys for the vehicles then the vehicles were driven off dealership lots with both sets of keys accounted for.

Leduc — Alberta RCMP officer involved shooting in Leduc

On June 19, 2024, at 11:23 p.m., RCMP received a report of a suicidal individual with a firearm outside of the Leduc Detachment. To locate the suspect, additional resources were deployed, including the Alberta RCMP Emergency Response Team, nearby detachments, Edmonton Police Service (EPS) Air 1 Helicopter and EPS Tactical Team and EPS Police Dog Service. EPS Air 1 located the suspect vehicle in Leduc and containment was established.

Drumheller — Drumheller RCMP and Correctional Service Canada apprehend drug traffickers

On June 10, 2024, at approximately 6:30 p.m., Drumheller RCMP responded to the Drumheller Correctional Institution to assist correctional officers who had apprehended two suspects whom were introducing illicit drugs into the penitentiary. The investigation found that the suspects had tossed packages of contraband over the security fence. The packages were recovered and examined and it was determined they contained suspected cocaine and methamphetamine. A black Volkswagen Golf car was also located nearby and seized along with other evidence as part of the investigation.

Samson Cree Nation — Maskwacis RCMP investigate stabbing on Samson Cree Nation

On April 12, 2024, Maskwacis RCMP received a report of a stabbing that occurred in the Samson Cree Nation townsite. Upon arrival, police located a victim who was taken by STARS to hospital with serious injuries. The Maskwacis RCMP General Investigations Section was deployed and has taken carriage of the investigation.

Parkland County — Central Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit arrest repeat offender in Parkland County

On June 5, 2024, officers from the Central Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit (CAD CRU) attended a property in Parkland County in order to locate and arrest a repeat offender with warrants. RCMP obtained a warrant to enter the property and arrest the suspect. Upon approaching the property, RCMP observed the suspect brandishing a shot gun. When advised he was under arrest, the suspect threatened police and went in a stolen camper trailer still holding the firearm.

Calgary — Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit investigate suspicious death – Update #4 suspect arrested

On June 15, 2024, a 24-year-old individual was arrested in Calgary. The individual has been taken before a justice of the peace and remanded into custody with a next court appearance set for June 20, 2024, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Edmonton. RCMP would like to thank the public and media for their assistance.

Red Deer — Red Deer RCMP Crime Reduction Team make significant drug seizure

On May 29, 2024, officers of the Red Deer Crime Reduction Team observed a known repeat offender operating a motor vehicle while prohibited. Due to this offender's history of dangerous driving and flight from police, including ramming a police vehicle, RCMP conducted surveillance and brought in additional resources including Calgary Police Services HAWCS helicopter, Innisfail RCMP, Police Dog Services, the Alberta RCMP Emergency Response Team, and RCMP Central Alberta District Crime Reduction Team.

Carstairs — Alberta RCMP officer involved shooting near Carstairs

On June 21, 2024 at 11:40 p.m., Alberta RCMP were notified by Calgary Police Service (CPS) of a suspect that had previously fled from police and was being covertly followed by HAWCS helicopter. The Alberta RCMP Real Time Operations Centre (RTOC) assumed responsibility of the incident to ensure efficient communications and a coordinated, joint response. Under RTOC, officers from CPS as well as RCMP from Airdrie, Didsbury, Olds and Sundre set up a covert tire deflation device and were successful in disabling the vehicle on the QE II Highway near Highway 581.
