High Level — Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit Investigates found human remains in the High Level detachment area

On Aug. 15, 2024, The Alberta RCMP located human remains in Mackenzie County. The deceased was transported to the Edmonton office of the Chief Medical Examiner, and on Aug. 19, 2024, the medical examiner identified the deceased as 41-year-old Tyler Peterson, a Hay River, NWT resident and who was reported missing from Hay River on July 14, 2024. The Medical Examiner also identified the manner of death as a homicide. The Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit has taken carriage of the investigation and will be working in conjunction with North West Territories Major Crimes Unit.
